Slander about Pogroms
The false information about the pogroms against Jews conducted by the Ukrainian nationalists in the first days when the Nazis entered Lviv has been
circulating in the internet for some time now. However, true history shows that large numbers of Ukrainians unanimously saved large numbers of Jews.
Moreover, the history managed to save the names of Ukrainians who saved Jews during World War II: Petro Pyasetsky, Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky and
others. For example,
"Maria Bodnar of the village of Ray, county of Berezhany, was sentence to death by hanging by the German Court in Ternopil in February, 1944, for
sheltering 5 Jews. The sentence was executed. ... Rev. Havryluk, parish priest of the city of Rivne, was hanged in February, 1943, by the Gestapo in
the market place of the city for sheltering and aiding Jews. Along with him the Gestapo hanged his wife, his daughters, Nadia, aged 22, and Tatyana,
aged 19, as well as a girl friend of his daughters by the name of Varvara Glasko." (Volodymyr Bemko, Testimony by Dr. Volodymyr Bemko, in Walter
Dushnyck (ed.), Ukrainians and Jews, The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, 1966, pp. 125-126)
If God has chosen Jews for a special purpose, then it may be said that in fulfilling that purpose, Jews have chosen Ukrainians for a special purpose.
That purpose is one of receiving Jewish ingratitude and hatred. And behind that purpose, there must be a motive, and Ukrainians must ask themselves
what that motive is, why they have been so chosen. We see evidence of this special purpose of Ukrainians receiving Jewish ingratitude and hatred in
the case at hand: non-Ukrainian saviors of Jewish lives are accorded high praise, even when little merited, whereas Ukrainian saviors of Jewish lives
are swept under the carpet, even when gratitude and praise are richly deserved. |
